Aquaponics Plants Fish Ratio






In a correctly designed and balanced aquaponic system, the ratio between fish and plants is based on the feeding rate ratio. the feeding rate ratio is the amount of feed fed to the fish daily per square meter of plant. In a home aquaponics system this ratio is normally 1:1 but in a commercial setup you can increase this to 1:3 or 1:4 depending on the fish density and water flow rate. commercial systems can stock fish as high as 1 fish per 8-10 liters of water, provided you have ample aeration and fast water cycling. I attached an aerial view of what this part of my system looks like.. the white lines in-between each container are pvc pipes and it's a very minimal simplistic sketch.. this is just to give an idea of what i'm working with.. the fish tank is 400-500 gallons.. the swirl filter is a 55 gallon barrel.. and i don't know how big the trough is...
